Ode To Green Craig
(Without, alas, Robert Burns)

If  we had the gift of Robert Burns
We might create a poem
That could sing the charms of Green Craig
Our lovely Scottish home

But Burns would have to search his heart
To find the words to say
How we feel about dear Green Craig
The Queen of Gosford Bay

Sure Burns would love to write about
Our lovely hostess Fleur
Ah, he would pen a lively verse
To describe the likes of her

He’d tell the joys of Green Craig
With wit and Scottish mirth
And oh how he would rhapsodize
On the view across the Firth

And Burns would write a ballad
An epic poem at least
To celebrate the glory of
Our nightly Green Craig feast

But we’re just poor old golfers
Who thrash about the links
Then stagger back to Green Craig
For some comfort and some drinks

If we had the gift of Robert Burns
We might find the words to say
How much we love dear Green Craig
The Queen of Gosford Bay

But we only have this doggerel
This mindless, Burnsless  poem
To give our thanks to Green Craig
Our lovely Scottish home
