About Green Craig
The Location
Green Craig lies on the shores of the Firth of Forth some 15 miles east of Edinburgh at the start of the golf coastal route.
Neighbouring the Aberlady Nature Reserve the house is ideally situated to watch the hundreds of thousands of geese that migrate here in the autumn. Locally we have some of the best beaches in Scotland, miles of sandy safe beaches, ideal for a huge range of water sports and diving activities.
Walks are abundant both in land over the Lammermuir hills or along the coast on the John Muir Way.
Historically the county is rich in many attractions, not far from Green Craig is where the 1745 rebellion was fought at the Battle of Prestonpans. Dirleton has the beautiful remains of a castle and one of the oldest bowling greens in Britain, also the longest herbeaous border which is truly stunning in June and July. Just past North Berwick is the impressive Tantallon Castle, perched on the cliffs overlooking the Bass Rock, this has to be one of the most spectactual ruins in the area and these are just two of our famous castles in East Lothian.
On our own door step is the impressive Gosford House home to the Earl of Wemyss and March. The house is open to the public in June to allow you to marvel at the artwork and architecture. However, open all year are the wonderful policies which in their heyday must have been truly spectacular. This is the perfect place for a peaceful walk around the ponds.
A short drive away is the Royal burgh (town) of North Berwick, famous for the West Links golf course, but also a host to many other attractions. The Scottish Seabird Centre is worth a visit to watch the birdlife on the islands off shore from the town, there are boat trips out round the islands and if you are felling energetic a climb up the North Berwick Law to the top to see the view is a must!
